Common Sky Agreement Implemented

The initiative "Free use of routes in the common airspace of Southeast Europe" (SECSI FRA) has been successfully implemented on February 1, 2018, with the support from the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia.

Within less than a year from signing the memorandum of cooperation between Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Slovenia with the aim of implementing the South East Common Sky Initiative Free Route Airspace (SECSI FRA).

This cooperation will lead to the creation of one of the largest international free route airspaces in Europe and a major step towards the establishment of a common European Free Use Route (FRA) by 2022.

SECSI FRA initiative gives the airspace users along the southeast axis significant advantages in opting for the shortest routes between Central Europe and tourist destinations in Greece, Egypt and Turkey. The benefits of using SECSI FRA initiatives are significant. Based on facilitating planning and flying by shortest direct routes savings per day are up to 1940 NM in flight distance, 285 minutes in flight time, reduction in fuel consumption of 8 000 kilograms and CO2 emissions of about 25,500 kg.

SECSI FRA is expected to deliver to airlines savings of about 600-700,000 NM in flight distance annually. It will provide even more available options when determining the user-preferred trajectories.
