Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted category 1 approval today to the Republic of Serbia thus confirming that civil aviation safety standards in Serbia are at the highest level required by the FAA and other international civil aviation organizations.

This information has been communicated to the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia by the US Embassy representatives to Belgrade. The granting of this approval was preceded by extensive scrutiny into the Serbian civil aviation safety system by FAA`s expert team visit conducted in the course of this and the previous year. The FAA team of experts examined the safety regulations, oversight and the organization of different responsibilities and activities performed by the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia.

 

Granting of category 1 to operators registered in the Republic of Serbia opens an opportunity to establish direct flights to USA and apply for the approval to the USA Department of Transport.

Category 1 approval is a tremendous recognition that the civil aviation in Serbia meets the highest safety standards both in Europe and the USA. 

The next step would be signing of the modified bilateral air services agreement between the Republic of Serbia and USA.
