Cooperation agreement on SAR operations signed between Directorate and Italian satellite MCC Centre

At the 29th meeting of the Joint Committee (JC) members of the international COSPAS-SARSAT  program (C/S), to which the Republic of Serbia is a member, it was decided that it was necessary to improve cooperation between Mission Control Centres (MCC) and Rescue coordination centres (RCC) as key participants to COSPAS-SARSAT system by signing of cooperation agreement. The decision made during the JC meeting was supported by ICAO and IMO, i.e. the international civil aviation and maritime organizations.

In accordance with the above decision, the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia, as the representative of the Republic of Serbia to the international COSPAS-SARSAT program, and the body composed of and Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) for the Republic of Serbia and the Italian satellite COSPAS / SARSAT centre (ITMCC) from Bari signed the cooperation agreement on 20 July 2016, as the first agreement of its kind worldwide.

The agreement was signed respectively by Director Mirjana Čizmarov, and Pantaleo Dell ‘Olio, Director of the Italian satellite COSPAS-SARSAT stations CDR (CG).

The objective of the agreement is a more intrinsic regulation of reception and distribution of alert signals from radio transmitters broadcasting the position in case of emergency (ELT, EPIRB and PLB), detected by the COSPAS-SARSAT system on its LEO, MEO and GEO satellites.

Italian satellite COSPAS-SARSAT centre (ITMCC) as a member of the COSPAS-SARSAT system, receiving signals from satellites on earth, agrees to ensure delivery of distress alert and location data, generated by the COSPAS-SARSAT, to the Rescue Coordination Centre of the Directorate.

RCC of the Directorate, authorized by law to organize and manage the system of search and rescue of aircraft and persons in civil aviation on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, will exchange information with ITMCC by way of communication stipulated in the agreement. Such methods of communication shall be periodically tested and monitored to ensure prompt and safe delivery of alert data, including any other data of significance.

These two full-fledged members of the international COSPAS -SARSAT program have been successfully cooperating in the past and the signing of the agreement is a testimony of the outstanding cooperation between ITMCC and Directorate`s RCC.
