The Republic of Serbia applies the Montreal Convention as of 4 April 2010

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) informed us that the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air – the Montreal Convention, signed at Montreal on 29 May 1999, entered into force for the Republic of Serbia on 4 April 2010.
Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules relating to International Carriage by Air, signed at Warsaw on 12 October 1929 (the Warsaw Convention) and ratified by, at that time, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia on 3 March 1931, has been thus consolidated by means of the Montreal Convention.
The purpose of the adoption of the Montreal Convention is the introduction of unified and modernized rules in the domain of the liability of an air carrier for the damage caused to passengers, baggage and cargo in international air carriage.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia adopted on 13 May 2009 the Law on the Ratification of the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air – the Montreal Convention.
